Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School narrowly defeated Queen Victoria School in their Vodafone Super Deans under-14 quarter-final match. Despite a late surge from QVS, which included two tries in the final stages, MGM secured an 18-15 victory in a contest that energized their supporters from start to finish.
With this win, MGM advances to the semi-finals, where they will face either Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, or Marist Brothers High School next weekend.
Team manager Miriama Lutubulo emphasized the importance of preparation as they move forward, stating, “Going into the semis, we’ll train every day and work harder. As we progress, we know it will become tougher, but we will improve.”
MGM led 15-3 at halftime, with their only additional points in the second half coming from a penalty. Lutubulo expressed her pride in the team, saying, “It was very nerve-wracking, but we trusted our boys to hold the fort, and they did.”
She highlighted that the motivation for the players comes from their desire to play for their families, school, and friends, noting how the presence of parents in the crowd serves as a strong motivator.
