Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) exhibited exceptional performance at the Suva Zone 1 athletics competition, dominating the girls’ 800m event and coming away with all the gold medals. They secured both gold and silver across sub-junior, intermediate, and senior grades, reaffirming their status as defending champions in the girls’ division.
In the sub-junior category, Adi Keva Balavu from Nadi claimed gold, while Samantha Prasad from Vanuabalavu earned silver. Adi Resina Lewadau further contributed to MGM’s success by clinching gold in the junior grade. The Bua duo of Elizabeth Kalouniviti and Vani Tuiwainunu followed suit, securing gold and silver in the intermediate grade. In the seniors, Gladness Simpson and Kuini Valebuliti added additional gold and silver medals to MGM’s impressive tally.
This performance echoes MGM’s previous achievements in athletics, where they have consistently showcased their talent at competitions, including the upcoming National Championship Coca-Cola Games scheduled for April 24-26 at HFC Bank Stadium. As schools rally to foster spirit and encourage participation among young athletes, events like these highlight the ongoing commitment to nurturing talent in Fiji’s athletics community.
The atmosphere at such competitions is not only competitive but also deeply supportive, reflecting the community’s encouragement towards young athletes. With a promising future ahead, MGM’s dominance serves as an inspiration not just for their school but for all competitors participating in youth sports within the region.
