Defending their title at the Suva Zone One Athletics competition is set to be a significant challenge for Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School as they gear up for a competitive atmosphere this year. MGM Athletics coach Waliki Satakala noted that the team’s prospects may be impacted by several athletes having either moved to different schools or graduated from secondary education.
Despite these changes, Satakala expressed optimism, stating that they remain committed to giving their best. “We are confident we’ll be able to defend the girls’ division, but for the boys, we might have a different result because the majority of our athletes have either gone abroad or to other schools,” he commented.
The school has been intensely preparing for the past few weeks and acknowledges the heightened level of competition expected this year. The Suva Zone One competition commenced with the 100 meter heats at the HFC Bank Stadium, and live coverage is available via FBC Sports.
This year’s championship promises to be a thrilling event as it features not only established talents but also new competitors stepping onto the track and field for the first time. Such opportunities are crucial for nurturing young athletes, allowing them to experience the excitement of competition and inspire them for future events.
As schools come together for this prestigious event, the spirit of camaraderie and community is expected to shine through, highlighting the importance of youth sports in fostering teamwork and resilience among the participants.
