Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School narrowly defeated Queen Victoria School in their Vodafone Super Deans under-14 quarter-final match, overcoming late pressure. Despite Queen Victoria scoring two tries towards the end, MGM secured an 18-15 victory in a contest that captivated the enthusiastic crowd from the beginning to the end.
With this win, MGM advances to the semi-finals next weekend, where they will face either Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, or Marist Brothers High School. Team manager Miriama Lutubulo mentioned that they will maintain their current training regimen, emphasizing the need for hard work as the competition intensifies.
MGM led 15-3 at halftime, with their sole points in the second half coming from a penalty kick. Lutubulo expressed pride in the team, stating, “It was very nerve-wracking, but we trusted our boys to hold the fort, and they did.” She highlighted that the motivation for the players comes from their desire to perform well for their families, school, and peers, noting that the presence of their parents at the games inspires them.
