Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) once again demonstrated its athletic excellence by successfully defending its title in the Girls’ division at the Coca-Cola Games Championships held at the HFC Bank Stadium. The school not only excelled in competition but also showed remarkable community spirit by sponsoring parents’ grandstand tickets, fostering a powerful presence of family support.
Acting Head of School Rajeshwar Prasad highlighted the impact of this community involvement, stating that the turnout of parent supporters contributed significantly to the athletes’ performance. “We are proud of everyone. The management has supported athletes with everything from meals to early morning preparations,” Prasad remarked.
MGM’s girls’ team, having commenced their preparations as early as November 2024 and participating in a three-week bonding camp, achieved their goal by successfully defending their championship title. Coach Waliki Satakala played a pivotal role in their training alongside Royals Club coach Antonio Raboiliku, focusing on both preparation and professional development. Despite narrowly missing their goal of 21 gold medals, the team finished with an impressive total of 20, showcasing their dedication and competitive spirit.
Previous reports confirm that both MGM and Marist Brothers High School have consistently demonstrated strong performances across various athletic competitions. The camaraderie and support among schools during these events highlight the importance of sports in nurturing young talent and fostering school pride within the community.
As student-athletes continue to inspire their peers, the successes of MGM serve as a beacon of hope for the future of athletics in Fiji, which promises further achievements in upcoming events. With communities rallying behind their young athletes, the future of Fiji’s sports scene looks increasingly bright, instilling a sense of pride and encouraging further participation in athletics.
