Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) has once again proven its prowess in athletics by successfully defending the girls’ division title at the 2025 Fiji Finals. The school has established an impressive lead, amassing a total of 16 gold medals, 9 silver, and 3 bronze, creating an 11-gold margin at the top of the standings. Close behind is Adi Cakobau School, which has collected 5 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
This year’s Fiji Finals reflects a continuation of MGM’s remarkable athletic journey, which has been evident throughout the season. Earlier in the event, Merekeleni Ratubaka contributed to MGM’s medal tally by winning gold in the girls’ open grade 3000m event, further solidifying the school’s reputation as a dominant force in school sports.
The successes at the Fiji Finals are not only a source of pride for MGM but also indicative of the growth and talent present in Fiji’s athletic community. Such events foster not only competition but also camaraderie, as schools come together to support their young athletes. The spirited environment observed during these competitions is vital for developing future athletes who can pursue national and international opportunities.
With further competitions on the horizon, including the National Championship Coca-Cola Games, the excitement surrounding school athletics in Fiji continues to build. The dedication displayed by student-athletes like those from MGM serves as an inspiration for their peers and the community, promising a bright future for sports in the region.
