About 338 circuits within the 59 divisions of the Methodist Church of Fiji commenced the fourth day of its annual conference. A significant development during this session was the announcement from the Indian Division, which revealed a bold new five-year vision titled “Reach Out.” This initiative emphasizes the church’s commitment to extending its reach beyond traditional settings, focusing on assisting the unchurched and marginalized communities affected by various social issues.

Vili Finau, the Senior Steward of the Bethany Circuit in Nadi, remarked on the rapidly evolving social climate in Fiji, urging the church to do more for those in need. His sentiments were echoed by Reverend Abel Nand of the Lautoka Wesley Circuit, who showed strong support for the new initiative. Nand highlighted the practical efforts of their Mana Morning Ministry, which focuses on offering food, prayers, and support to vulnerable populations, including sex workers and the homeless, aiming to instill hope alongside physical assistance.

Reverend Nand stressed the importance of not only meeting immediate needs but also working on family values, encouraging parents to engage their children in church programs and Sunday school. This holistic approach aligns with the church’s broader mission to restore its image and address societal challenges, which echoes themes discussed at previous conferences.

Echoing earlier discussions at the conference, church leaders, including Reverend Anil Reuben and Church President Reverend Semisi Turagavou, emphasized the importance of inclusivity in decision-making and the urgency to confront social issues like crime, drug abuse, and the spiritual needs of incarcerated individuals. Turagavou reiterated the need for innovative strategies to restore the church’s standing and to be a guiding moral force within the broader community.

This forward-thinking approach presents a hopeful narrative for the Methodist Church in Fiji, where the revival signifies a commitment to not only spiritual growth but also social responsibility. The church’s unwavering dedication to outreach and support reflects an inspiring message of compassion and action during challenging times.
