A trial for Walter Fong, who faces charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, has been scheduled for next year. Mr. Fong, represented by lawyer Jiten Reddy, is accused of having 0.0212 grams of methamphetamine in Lami on August 7 of this year. He has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is set to commence on July 30.

This case was addressed before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad. In another related matter, three individuals charged with unlawful importation of methamphetamine are due back in court for a pre-trial conference on March 17 of next year. The accused, Michael Malik Mudaliar and Sujeet Kumar, also represented by Jiten Reddy, allegedly imported liquid methamphetamine amounting to 8.502 liters, which is equivalent to 8.3214 kilograms, during an incident in Nadi between May 12 and 18 last year. Their co-accused, Alvin Kumar, faces charges of aiding and abetting the drug importation.

The legal proceedings in these cases highlight the ongoing efforts of the judicial system to address drug-related offenses. Encouragingly, the legal process allows for fair trials and due process, underlining the importance of justice being served while respecting the rights of the accused.

In summary, both cases signify the authorities’ commitment to tackling drug-related crimes, fostering the hope that such measures will deter future offenses and promote a safer community.
