Three men have been arrested in distinct incidents for allegedly possessing illicit substances believed to be methamphetamine, as law enforcement intensifies its efforts against drug-related crime and the seizure of illegal profits. The arrests took place in Votualevu, Grantham Road in Raiwaqa, and Belo Street in Samabula from January 1 to 2, 2026.
The first arrest occurred on New Year’s Day along Grantham Road, involving a 30-year-old male from Nanuku Settlement. He was taken into custody after police reportedly found him with several zip-lock bags containing white substances suspected to be methamphetamine. Authorities also confiscated drug paraphernalia, dried leaves believed to be marijuana, and cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In the second incident, a 25-year-old man was apprehended in Votualevu when police allegedly discovered clear plastic packets with white substances resembling methamphetamine.
The third arrest happened on January 2 when a 37-year-old man from Makoi was detained on Belo Street in Samabula. He was reportedly found with a zip-lock bag containing substances believed to be methamphetamine.
All suspects are currently in police custody, while the alleged drugs have been sent for forensic testing.
Additionally, investigations are continuing in a separate matter involving three individuals arrested at Nadi International Airport, who were found in possession of large amounts of money suspected to be tied to illicit activities. This case is being managed by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Anti-Money Laundering Unit, and the three individuals have been questioned and later released as inquiries determine the source of the funds.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, emphasized that the investigations into drug-related crimes will cover not only possession and distribution but also the profits and unexplained wealth derived from such activities. This comprehensive approach is in line with directives from Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, aiming to dismantle the drug trade by targeting those profiting from it at the expense of the community.
This proactive stance from law enforcement illustrates a commitment to safeguarding the public and addressing the wider issues related to drug trafficking and financial crime.
