The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has praised the dedicated medical team at Lomaloma Hospital for their efforts in stabilizing a newborn baby just one week old, who had been delivered at the facility last week. This commendation comes in light of the challenges faced when the infant developed complications shortly after birth.
In a remarkable display of teamwork and responsiveness, the medical staff closely monitored the baby’s condition and utilized phone consultations with pediatricians in Suva. The situation was further complicated by adverse weather conditions and travel restrictions, which hindered timely transport from Vanua Balavu.
Fortunately, a mercy flight arrived at Lomaloma recently, allowing for the safe transfer of both the mother and baby to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where they will receive further medical care. The commendable medical team, led by Dr. Mele Kurisese, played a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the newborn during a very challenging time.
This incident highlights the importance of responsive healthcare services and the dedication of medical professionals in providing critical care, even when faced with logistical challenges. The successful stabilization of the baby serves as a hopeful reminder of the strength and resilience present within healthcare teams, who continually work to save and improve lives despite obstacles.
