The annual Melbourne Cup event held at the Heineken House in Denarau successfully raised funds for the ‘Run to Give’ initiative. Neeraj Chadha, the Multi-Property Vice President of Fiji and Samoa Marriott International, and General Manager of the Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, highlighted the event’s purpose of promoting camaraderie and community engagement while simultaneously supporting charitable efforts.
This year, funds raised will benefit Markets for Change, a UNICEF initiative supported by hotels in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. The ‘Run to Give’ program has already garnered approximately $30,000, and this event marks a continuation of those efforts. Chadha emphasized the significance of these funds in assisting aspiring women entrepreneurs to establish and grow their businesses within the community.
The Melbourne Cup is a major event in Australia, and this celebration attracted over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local participants from the Nadi Hash Harriers. The festive atmosphere featured a variety of activities, such as food, beverages, an art auction, and performances by the Vou Dance group, creating a sense of joy and generosity.
Eva Mcgoon, a participant from Papua New Guinea, expressed that the event was an enjoyable way to contribute to charity, all while indulging in good food and drinks. The initiative received generous support from sponsors including Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC.
This event not only showcased a spirit of fun and community involvement but also highlighted the importance of supporting charitable causes, inspiring others to contribute to positive social change.
The ongoing support for women entrepreneurs through such initiatives is hopeful and demonstrates how collective efforts can foster a thriving community while making a difference for those in need.
