The annual Melbourne Cup event held at the Heineken House in Denarau has successfully raised funds for the ‘Run to Give’ initiative. Neeraj Chadha, Multi-Property Vice President for Fiji and Samoa Marriott International and General Manager of the Westin and Sheraton Resorts Fiji Complex, highlighted that this marks the sixth year of the property hosting this fun-filled charity event, aimed at engaging the community while celebrating together.
Chadha pointed out that this year’s efforts will support ‘Markets for Change,’ a UNICEF program that has garnered participation from hotels across Australia and New Zealand, as well as Fijian establishments, raising over $30,000 previously. He emphasized the importance of helping women entrepreneurs build their businesses and contributing positively to their communities through these funds.
The event drew over a hundred attendees, including tourists and local participants like the Nadi Hash Harriers, and was described by one attendee, Eva Mcgoon from Papua New Guinea, as a great opportunity to enjoy good food, drinks, and charity in a lively atmosphere. With a sellout crowd, the festivities included art auctions and performances by the Vou Dance group, making it not just a charitable occasion but also a vibrant community gathering. Support for the event was provided by notable sponsors including Heineken, Lanson, and DGRC.
This annual event not only brings people together to enjoy the festivities of the Melbourne Cup but also reinforces a strong sense of community and solidarity in supporting local businesses and charitable causes. It’s a testament to how enjoyable events can have a meaningful impact, fostering both local entrepreneurship and charity.
By emphasizing community and fun, initiatives like ‘Run to Give’ offer hope and contribute to lasting change in the lives of many, showcasing how collective efforts can lead to a positive and impactful celebration.
