Melania Tora, the newly crowned Miss Hibiscus, received a traditional welcome ceremony in her village of Sabeto, Nadi, on Saturday. The Vanua o Betoraurau community celebrated her victory, highlighting her efforts to promote Nadi and Fiji on a global scale, according to clan leader Kiniviliame Mokotanavanua.
The event also saw the presence of Tui Sabeto, Ratu Viliame Mataitoga, who expressed pride in Tora’s accomplishments. “Your success serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to many,” he remarked, adding, “Congratulations to our amazing vulau (daughter)!”
Sponsored by Tents and Awnings, Ms. Tora was crowned just two weeks prior to the celebration. Ratu Viliame noted her commitment to representing her roots with pride, stating, “Your name may not be mentioned, but the name of your vanua, your chiefly house, Na Momo na Tui Sabeto, is now known throughout Fiji and the world. Thank you for showcasing where you come from.”
In her speech, Ms. Tora expressed gratitude to her chief and the support from her community during the festival, acknowledging that it was their encouragement, guidance, and prayers that helped her attain the Miss Hibiscus title.
