Nineteen-year-old Pepe Malani is making her mark at this year’s Miss Hibiscus festival with a remarkable combination of academic excellence, athletic talent, musical skill, and community service.
Currently a first-year Environmental Science student at the University of the South Pacific, Pepe is proudly sponsored by Fiji Fashion Week, an organization dedicated to promoting competitive fashion design on a global scale. This philanthropic initiative not only fosters employment growth but also encourages the export of Fijian designs, positioning Fiji Fashion Week as a key event in the country’s social calendar.
Pepe’s journey exemplifies determination and commitment. Throughout her primary and secondary education, she thrived in swimming, earning numerous accolades in both school and club competitions. This success has not only refined her athletic prowess but also instilled a deep commitment to achieving excellence.
In addition to her sporting achievements, Pepe’s enthusiasm for music is evident. She was an active member of her high school choir and currently participates in the Primanavia choir group. One of her highlights was representing Fiji at the World Choir Games in New Zealand earlier this year, where her choir earned a gold medal, showcasing her talent on an international platform.
Pepe’s dedication to her community is equally noteworthy. She has volunteered with St. John’s Ambulance, gaining valuable experience in assisting those in need. Furthermore, she has participated in village clean-up initiatives and sustainability projects aimed at enhancing the local environment.
Being the youngest of five siblings, Pepe draws inspiration from her family’s commitment to both sports and academic success. Her brother, an Olympian, embodies the excellence that defines her family, with all her siblings achieving significant accomplishments in their respective pursuits.
The 68th Hibiscus Festival, where Pepe will compete, is scheduled to take place at the Suva Civic Foreshore and Suva Civic Centre from August 31 to September 7. Gold Sponsors for this year’s festival edition include FMF and Vodafone, contributing to the event’s vibrant atmosphere and ongoing success.
