For the first time, members of the media will have the opportunity to witness the destruction of a significant 4.1-tonne drug haul in Nadi. This announcement was confirmed by John Rabuku, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, who addressed inquiries regarding the destruction plans.
Recently, the High Court in Suva granted approval for the state to destroy the substantial quantity of drugs that has been held in Police custody since early this year. Rabuku noted that the Police are currently finalizing the plan for the destruction, which will then be submitted to the DPP’s office for further review.
Rabuku assured that once the details are settled, invitations will be sent out to all media companies to observe the destruction process. He clarified that after the plan is finalized, there will be a 14-day period in which the DPP will notify the High Court before the actual destruction takes place. The comprehensive plan will outline important information concerning the time and location of the event.
This event marks a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking and could serve as a powerful statement on law enforcement’s commitment to eradicating illegal drugs from the community. It may also provide an opportunity to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug use and trafficking while reinforcing the importance of justice and accountability in society.
As details unfold, this event could symbolize progress in addressing drug-related issues and enhancing community safety.
