Crushing operations at the Rarawai Mill have been temporarily halted due to a mechanical issue with the mill’s boiler system. The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) identified the fault yesterday, prompting an immediate shutdown to conduct urgent repairs.
Chief Executive Bhan Pratap Singh stated that technical teams are on-site working diligently to repair the issue, and they anticipate that crushing will resume by midnight today. Singh expressed regrets for any inconvenience this may cause the growers and other stakeholders involved.
Previous reports have shown that similar mechanical issues have affected operations at the Lautoka Mill, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the industry. The FSC has emphasized the importance of timely maintenance and clear communication with stakeholders during such disruptions, which include keeping growers and lorry operators informed through sector officers.
Despite the current setback, there remains a hopeful outlook as the ongoing collaboration among stakeholders aims to bolster resilience and enhance productivity in Fiji’s sugar industry in the coming months. The commitment from the FSC to resolve these mechanical challenges reflects a positive path toward increased operational stability.
