Lami and Nausori will soon have McDonald’s outlets. Vuvale Restaurants (Fiji) Limited, the parent company of McDonald’s Fiji and property developer, announced this move as part of its expansion plans.
Managing director Marc McElrath stated that the expansion plans would unfold in the next 12 to 18 months.
“A property in Lami has been acquired and is going through the re-zoning process with the required design work being done in New Zealand,” he said.
“Lami is a growing area and the traffic between Lami and Pacific Harbour and the Western Division is increasing every week.”
McDonald’s Nakasi opened for business last month, and according to Mr. McElrath, the success of the restaurant has been excellent.
The latest addition to the McDonald’s chain created 55 new jobs, which were primarily for school leavers.
“This brings our total workforce now to about 400 people in the country,” he noted.
Mr. McElrath said that expansion into Nausori was inevitable.
“We’ll be looking at different sites there,” he added.
“We’ve done extensive work in Labasa on site selection. There have been several people that we’ve talked to and areas that we’ve looked at. We’re hoping to have something confirmed in the next four months so that we can slowly move into Vanua Levu.”
