McDonald’s Expands to Lami and Nausori

Lami and Nausori will soon welcome McDonald’s outlets as Vuvale Restaurants (Fiji) Limited, the parent company of McDonald’s Fiji, announced its expansion plans. Managing Director Marc McElrath stated that the expansion would occur over the next 12 to 18 months.

“A property in Lami has been acquired and is undergoing the re-zoning process, with the necessary design work being conducted in New Zealand,” McElrath said. “Lami is a growing area, and the traffic between Lami, Pacific Harbour, and the Western Division is increasing weekly.”

McDonald’s Nakasi, which opened last month, has seen excellent success. The new outlet created 55 jobs, primarily for school leavers, bringing the total workforce in the country to about 400 people.

Expanding into Nausori was described as inevitable by McElrath. “We’re looking at different sites there,” he said. “Extensive work has been done in Labasa on site selection, and we are hoping to confirm a location in the next four months to gradually move into Vanua Levu.”
