Mbappe vs. PSG: Mediation Begins Over Wage Dispute

Paris Saint-Germain has accepted an offer from the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to mediate with Kylian Mbappe regarding a wage dispute following his exit from the club. Mbappe made a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid during the offseason, with reports indicating that he is seeking approximately 55 million euros ($60.58 million).

The relationship between PSG and Mbappe became strained last year when the forward, the club’s all-time top scorer, refused to sign a contract extension, resulting in him being sidelined from the team. He was later reintroduced to the first team after a resolution was found but ultimately departed as a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

A spokesperson for PSG stated that the club has emphasized that Mbappe had made clear, repeated public and private commitments that should be honored, especially considering the considerable benefits he received during his seven years in Paris. The Commission has now prompted Mbappe to consider the mediation process that PSG has been pursuing for several months.

Earlier this year, Mbappe mentioned an agreement with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi intended to protect all parties involved and ensure the club’s stability moving forward. Reports from last year suggested that Mbappe had agreed to waive loyalty bonuses associated with leaving PSG on a free transfer. Attempts to reach Mbappe’s representatives for comments remain pending.
