Gabriel Matanisiga, the national representative, has officially been cleared to join Rewa for the upcoming football season. The Fiji Football Association confirmed that Matanisiga has received his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from New Zealand’s Wellington Olympic, where he played last year.
Matanisiga previously had successful spells with the Delta Tigers, and his return is viewed as a strategic move to enhance the team’s depth and defensive strength. Adding him to their lineup not only reinforces the squad but also aligns with Rewa’s goals of maintaining competitiveness as they prepare for the OFC Champions League scheduled for March in the Solomon Islands.
In addition to Matanisiga, the club is actively pursuing other prominent players, including Mosese Nabose from Tailevu Naitasiri and Fiji U19 goalkeeper Ilisoni Koro. They’re also in discussions with Kavaia Rawaqa from Suva, indicating a strong intent to build a well-rounded team ahead of the season.
Rewa’s proactive approach during the transfer window showcases their commitment to bolstering the squad with local talents, setting up a potential revival of Fijian football as the emphasis on teamwork and local participation grows. As the season approaches, fans can look forward to an exciting lineup and spirited matchups that promise to elevate the standards of the Digicel Fiji Premier League.
