The Central Division faced a significant power outage yesterday due to a tree that reportedly fell on Energy Fiji Ltd’s (EFL) 132,000-volt transmission line in Waibau.
EFL’s chief executive officer, Hasmukh Patel, stated that the disruption occurred around 2:28 PM. He explained that a tree was being cut in Waibau when it accidentally fell onto the transmission line, which impacted the flow of electricity from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.
Patel mentioned that teams were dispatched to remove the fallen tree from the line before restoring power. While efforts were underway to re-establish the electricity supply to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, he noted that it would take some time to fully restore power across the Central Division.
The public has been advised to stay away from all power lines during this period. EFL also expressed its apologies for the unexpected power disruption and the resulting inconvenience, urging for the understanding and cooperation of its customers.
