Iosefo Masi of the Fijian Drua is being considered as a potential replacement for Semi Radradra, his fellow Taveuni native, at Lyon, a club in the French Top 14 league. Masi signed a two-year contract with the Drua in 2022, which will conclude at the end of this year, and he has yet to extend his contract.
Reports from Midi Olympique indicate that Radradra’s contract is also nearing its end and is unlikely to be renewed. The publication stated that Lyon’s management is keen on Masi, who emerged as one of the standout players in the recent Super Rugby season.
Lyon’s president Yann Roubert previously commented on Radradra’s situation, noting that there were high hopes for better results from the team last season. Although Roubert’s remarks appeared diplomatic, it remains uncertain whether the club will opt to renew Radradra’s costly contract.
He expressed, “For Semi, as well as the rest of the team and the entire club, we wanted more and better last season. The magic of sport allows us to start anew in the upcoming season, where everyone must demonstrate their commitment to the values and prove that they can excel.”
Roubert added that as the season unfolds, it would provide insights into whether there is a mutual desire to continue contracts with players. He emphasized that this would also be an opportunity for individuals to showcase their capabilities and willingness to contribute to the team’s success.
Recently, Radradra was not included in the starting lineup for Lyon, which suffered a heavy defeat of 43-22 against La Rochelle.
