Maryann Macedru, a standout athlete from Saint Joseph High School, exhibited exceptional talent at the Fiji Finals competition by winning the gold medal in the intermediate girls’ shot put. Not only did she claim victory, but she also shattered her own previous record with a remarkable throw of 14.44 meters, surpassing the former record of 13.27 meters that she had set in the previous year.

Her determination to excel was clear as she came into the Fiji Finals with the goal of surpassing her own standards. Macedru’s performance is particularly noteworthy as she has already represented Fiji in the Pacific Games held in the Solomon Islands in 2023, showcasing her commitment and level of competition.

“I’ve been working hard since the competition last year, and breaking my record has always been the gold since. At the moment, I am working towards making the national team for the Mini Games in Palau in a few months’ time,” Macedru shared, reflecting on her diligent preparation and aspirations.

This achievement signals not only a personal victory for Macedru but also embodies the spirit of perseverance and hard work that is often seen in young athletes. Additionally, her efforts continue to inspire her peers and highlights the vibrant potential within Fiji’s youth sports community, exemplifying the outcomes of commitment and teamwork.

As she sets her sights on future competitions, such as the upcoming Mini Games in Palau this July, there is a palpable sense of optimism and encouragement surrounding her journey. Her continued dedication may lead to even greater accomplishments as she pursues her athletic ambitions.
