Marlon Wayans had a light-hearted approach to his recent experience announcing the Golden Globe nominations for 2026. Following the broadcast, Wayans admitted he had a bit of trouble accurately pronouncing some nominees’ names, joking, “I’m not sure a lot of them know that they were nominated.” His comments were made to Variety hours after the live event, where he co-hosted alongside actress Skye P. Marshall.

Despite the occasional mispronunciations, the event largely proceeded smoothly, highlighting the key contenders in this prestigious awards season. Wayans had to scramble to familiarize himself with the nominees, revealing that he had only three minutes to prepare before the announcements began. This time constraint may have contributed to his verbal fumbles, including Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson’s name, who received a nomination for his score in “Sinners,” and Elle Fanning, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Sentimental Value.”

Additionally, Wayans stumbled over several contributors to the K-Pop nominated track “Golden,” which attracted attention due to its diverse team of composers. Adding humor to the situation, he quipped that “somebody’s mama at home right now going, ‘What, who?’” after his mispronunciations.

Co-host Marshall expressed her own apprehension about pronouncing names correctly. She stated that as a fan of festival season and its emerging projects, she practiced diligently to ensure she could confidently announce the names of nominees she admired, such as Lee Byung-Hun. Her dedication highlights the respect and value both presenters hold for the nominees and the artistic contributions they make.

In an industry where recognition matters significantly, this humorous mishap can serve as a reminder of the rapid pace and excitement that surrounds awards season, as well as the importance of honoring artists in the correct manner. Wayans’ approach, light-hearted and sincere, brings a relatable element to an otherwise high-stakes event.
