Marist Brothers High School’s under-17 head coach, Jonetani Rika, expressed confidence and preparation as his team gears up for the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans finals this weekend. The Kaunikuila team will face the formidable Ratu Kadavulevu School, known for their prowess in the U17 grade.
Marist earned their spot in the finals after narrowly defeating Queen Victoria School 17-15 in the semi-finals last weekend. Rika noted the advantage of having previously played a warm-up match against RKS, ensuring they are not going into the final without insight.
“It’s not a matter of status come game day; it will depend on the team that arrives physically and mentally prepared,” he stated. While recognizing RKS as a strong opponent, Rika emphasized the importance of focusing on his team’s capabilities.
He also received guidance from Saiasi Fuli, the head coach of Fijiana 7s, who offered motivational support following their semi-final victory. The finals match is set for Saturday at 12:50 PM at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
