Marist Brothers High School has made history by hosting Fiji’s first dedicated academic excellence induction ceremony, held at Lambert Hall in Suva. On this significant day, 93 students were recognized for their exceptional academic performance across various streams, including 19 high achievers who met the National Toppers Scholarship criteria.
The school’s principal, Asish Dayal, emphasized the importance of this initiative, which stemmed from ongoing efforts to monitor student achievement throughout the year. “We started tracking all our high achievers from all 17 tests from Term 1 and the recent mid-year exam,” he shared, highlighting the systematic approach taken by the school.
In his address, Dayal cited research supporting the idea that students excel when they benefit from peer teaching backed by support from teachers and parents. “Our Marist Academic Excellence initiative and induction ceremony today is to provide our students with an additional layer of support,” he explained.
Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education, officiated the ceremony and praised the Marist Brothers High School community for their pioneering efforts in fostering academic excellence. This initiative aligns with trends in educational achievements seen across Fiji, reminiscent of the Nausori Education District’s recent awards night that celebrated academic excellence and the collaborative efforts of educators and families.
Such milestones signify a growing commitment to uplifting educational standards in Fiji, with a focus on motivating students to reach their potential. As seen in similar recognition programs, acknowledging student accomplishments serves not only to boost morale but also to encourage hard work and perseverance among peers, ultimately contributing to a robust educational environment.
The celebration of academic achievements at Marist Brothers High School not only highlights individual successes but also represents a hopeful future for the educational landscape in Fiji. By reinforcing the value of education and recognition, schools are paving the way for future generations to thrive academically and personally.
