The much-anticipated interhouse athletics event at Marist Brother High School reached its exciting conclusion yesterday at the HFC Bank National Stadium in Suva. This event marks a significant milestone in the school’s preparations for the forthcoming Suva Zone Two meet and the esteemed Coca-Cola Games.
Over the past five weeks, the school implemented an intensive house training program, allowing each house the opportunity to train their athletes for this crucial competition. Antonio Robuiliku, the school’s athletics team coach, provided insights into the lead-up to the interhouse event and the journey that lies ahead.
“For the last five weeks, we’ve been doing house training, giving each house the chance to prepare their athletes. Today, we experienced what they brought to the Marist Athletics funding. This event involves all our families and alumni coming together to support this competition,” stated Robuiliku.
The interhouse day serves as an essential benchmark for the school’s athletics standards. While the coach expressed satisfaction with the performances displayed during the event, he also acknowledged the need for a stronger commitment going forward. “We are pleased with what we saw, but it means we really have to step up our game. Next week marks the beginning of training for the school team, and we need to elevate our performance since the standard here isn’t as high as we hoped. We’ll see how we can improve from next week onward,” Robuiliku remarked.
Looking ahead to both the Suva Zone Two meet and the Coca-Cola Games, Robuiliku emphasized the school’s strengths in field events. “Marist has always been strong in our field events. Currently, we are focusing on those, particularly our throwers. Although our track athletes aren’t seen as favorites, we still have robust throwers and jumpers. Last year, our throwers earned two gold medals, so we are hopeful for continued success.”
In closing, Robuiliku expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Marist community for their unwavering support throughout the training period. “We want to thank everyone in the Marist family for their encouragement. By next week, we will start selecting our team and begin serious training for the upcoming Zone and Coca-Cola Games,” he noted.
As Marist Brother High School moves forward, their focus remains clear: to refine their strengths, enhance their performance standards, and strive for excellence at these prestigious upcoming athletics meets. With a strong community backing and a commitment to improvement, there is optimism about their potential success.
