A southeasterly wind flow will dominate Fiji's weather over the next 24–48 hours, with a strong wind warning remaining in force for several island groups and parts of the northern and eastern coasts. Expect moderate to fresh southeasterlies across the group, with stronger southeast winds developing in exposed areas from tomorrow and generally rough seas offshore.
Strong southeast winds of up to 45 km/h are forecast to develop from tomorrow over the land areas of Yasawa, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of Rakiraki and Udu Point. Outside these areas winds will be moderate to fresh. Seas will be rough around the affected coasts and island groups, so conditions at sea will be hazardous for small and open vessels.
Cloudy periods with some showers are expected across Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, parts of Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby islands, and through the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Elsewhere the weather will be mostly fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers.
Local forecasts: Navua/Suva/Nausori and Natadradave/Korovou can expect cloudy periods with showers and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms, lows around 24°C and daytime highs near 31–32°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, and Nadi/Lautoka/Ba should remain mostly fine apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, with highs around 31–32°C. Tavua/Rakiraki will see developing strong southeasterlies around Rakiraki and otherwise mainly fine conditions with isolated showers. Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu will have strong southeast winds developing and cloudy periods with some showers, with daytime highs near 31–32°C.
Rotuma is affected by a trough of low pressure and will continue to experience occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms and moderate easterly winds; conditions are expected to persist into Monday with showers and thunderstorms continuing. With the strong wind warning and rough seas in effect, those involved in boating, fishing or coastal activities should exercise caution and monitor further updates from the National Weather Forecasting Centre.
