A weakening trough over the eastern islands combined with a moist northeasterly wind flow will keep much of Fiji under cloudy periods and scattered showers, the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi said in its 10:45am bulletin on Thursday 19 March 2026. Fine weather is expected in many areas apart from the usual afternoon and evening showers, but isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely over the larger islands.
Cloudy periods with some showers are forecast for the Yasawa group, Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, eastern Macuata, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu and surrounding isles. Elsewhere most districts should see mainly fine conditions, though afternoon or evening showers are still possible. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and similar isolated thunderstorms are forecast across several Central and Northern centres.
Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents in those locations should take care and keep an eye on rapidly rising water in streams and drains during heavy showers. Morning and night temperatures will be fairly consistent across the group, with daytime highs around 31–32°C and overnight lows near 24–25°C in most centres.
Winds will be moderate northeasterlies today, turning easterly from tomorrow, with generally moderate seas for coastal waters. Rotuma will see a moist easterly flow with moderate to fresh easterly winds and seas rising to moderate to rough, so mariners should be aware of the rougher conditions around that island.
The outlook for Saturday remains much the same: cloudy periods with some showers in the areas already noted, fine weather apart from afternoon or evening showers elsewhere, and continued chances of isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Moderate easterly winds and moderate seas are expected to prevail through the period.
