A trough of low pressure over Fiji, combined with a moist northerly flow, is bringing widespread cloud, showers and storms through tomorrow. The heaviest rain is expected across parts of western and island groups today, with a gradual easing of showers forecast to begin from tomorrow for many areas.
Occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely over the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, western Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere, expect occasional showers with a greater chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms that may produce heavy falls. Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, particularly where storms develop repeatedly.
Winds are expected to be moderate from the northeasterly quarter, and seas moderate for most coastal waters. Mariners should take care in moderate conditions, and people in flood-prone or low-lying locations should remain alert to sudden heavy downpours and the potential for short-lived flash flooding while the trough persists.
For urban and population centres there will be frequent showers and storm activity during the day. Navua, Suva and Nausori should expect occasional showers with afternoon thunderstorms likely, with temperatures around a low of 24°C and a high near 31°C tomorrow; conditions should gradually ease from tomorrow with Friday seeing mostly cloudy periods and some showers (Min 25°C, Max 32°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, as well as Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, will see similar patterns—occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls and highs around 31–32°C, with showers easing from tomorrow and afternoon or evening storms still possible into Friday.
Rotuma is also affected by the trough under a moist easterly flow. Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures there are forecast around 25–31°C, with similar conditions continuing into Friday.
