Former Fiji Bati player Marcelo Montoya is set to leave the New Zealand Warriors to return to Australia. The 28-year-old has received an early release from his contract, which was due to expire next season.
Andrew McFadden, the Warriors’ general manager of recruitment, pathways, and development, expressed that while the club was happy for Montoya to complete his contract, they are pleased that he has found a club in Australia that offers him long-term security. McFadden praised Montoya for being a valuable asset to the club over the past four seasons, highlighting his significant contributions both on and off the field, and wished him and his wife Tayla well for their future.
Montoya is expected to rejoin his former team, the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, on a two-year contract. During his time with the Warriors, he scored 30 tries in 82 appearances, including playing all 27 games in the 2023 season.
