Sireli Maqala, the fullback for the Flying Fijians, delivered an exceptional performance by scoring the standout try of the match, leading Bayonne to a commanding 37-7 victory over La Rochelle in their Top 14 matchup at Stade Jean Dauger Stadium yesterday.
Maqala, playing in the outside centre position, initiated and capped off a remarkable play that spanned the entire length of the field, culminating in a stylish dive into the corner for a try at the 50-minute mark.
Bayonne established a strong foundation for their win in the first half, with tries from Aurelien Callandret, Facundo Bosch, Camille Lopez, as well as a penalty try. Their flyhalf contributed significantly with two conversions and a penalty.
La Rochelle managed to secure a sole consolation try in the 71st minute, courtesy of Alexandre Kuntelia, with Ihaia West successfully converting it.
