The Nga Whanapoikiri Māori o Aotearoa Senior Women’s Team, known as MAURI, is set to engage in two friendly matches in Fiji this week. The team will compete against the Fiji Kulas on Thursday and then face off against the Ba Women, who are preparing for the OFC Women’s Champions League, on Saturday.

Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel expressed enthusiasm for this historic tour, emphasizing its importance in enhancing collaboration between New Zealand and Fiji. Patel highlighted that these matches will provide valuable exposure to both the Fiji Kulas and the Ba Women, promoting not just competitive football but also celebrating the cultural ties that unite the two nations.

Both matches are scheduled to be held at the Fiji FA Ba Academy, with the first match against the Fiji Kulas kicking off at 4pm on Thursday and the second match against the Ba Women at the same time on Saturday.

This initiative is a testament to the growing sports diplomacy between Fiji and New Zealand, offering a platform for cultural exchange and athletic development. Such interactions are crucial for the advancement of women’s sports in the Pacific region, fostering talent, and building networks that can lead to further opportunities in the future.
