Manuqalo Komaitai Signs for Harlequins Ahead of 2025-26 Premiership Women’s Rugby Season

Harlequins have made an impactful addition to their squad by signing Fijian international back row player Manuqalo Komaitai ahead of the forthcoming 2025-26 Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) season. The announcement comes after Komaitai showcased her talents on the world stage, having represented Fiji in three matches during the recent Women’s World Cup, where she scored a notable try against Scotland.

Komaitai is not a stranger to high-performance environments; alongside her rugby commitments, she serves in the British Army within the Irish Guards, an elite regiment known for its ceremonial duties guarding landmarks such as Buckingham Palace. Her athletic journey in rugby began relatively recently, motivated by a desire to stay active while serving. She has since thrived in the sport, having previously won the 2024 Women’s Super League title with the rugby league side York Valkyrie.

Feeling optimistic about her new chapter with Harlequins, Komaitai expressed her excitement, stating, “I really feel like this is an environment that I can flourish in. This feels like a place where I can really develop my game, and I’m excited to get going.” This enthusiasm reflects her commitment to furthering her skills and contributing to her new team.

Harlequins are set to kick off their PWR campaign with a home match against the Loughborough Lightning at Twickenham Stoop. The signing of Komaitai aligns with the trend of rising Fijian talent in both rugby union and league, showcasing the increasing opportunities for women in these sports. Her journey emphasizes the importance of resilience and community support in achieving one’s dreams, and she joins a growing list of athletes from Fiji who are inspiring the next generation.

The future looks bright for both Komaitai and her new team, as they embark on what promises to be an exciting and competitive season ahead.
