Navua’s journey in the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup came to an end as they fell 3-1 to Manukau All Stars during a crucial Group A match held at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This defeat signifies that Navua will not advance in the tournament.
The match was marked by an impressive performance from Manukau All Stars, who secured their place in the semifinals with this victory. Ni-Vanuatu player Alex Saniel kickstarted the scoring for the All Stars in the 15th minute, setting the tone for the game. Captain Jack Caunter added to the lead just before halftime, followed by tournament standout Garbhan Coughlan, who scored early in the second half to further solidify Manukau’s advantage.
Navua faced a significant challenge when their goalkeeper, Jovilisi Borisi, was sent off for violent conduct, leaving them to compete with only ten players. Despite this setback, Filipe Baravilala managed to score a consolation goal for Navua late in the match.
With Manukau All Stars moving on to the semifinals, attention now turns to the final game of the day, where either the host team Lautoka or AuFFI All Stars will claim the remaining semifinal spot.
This match not only showcased the competitiveness of the Pacific Community Cup but also highlighted the spirit and determination of both teams. While Navua may be disappointed with the outcome, their efforts throughout the tournament will surely lay a foundation for future success.
