Manslaughter Sentencing for Ex-Cops Postponed: What’s Next?

The High Court in Suva has rescheduled the sentencing of three former police officers charged with manslaughter to October 17, due to insufficient preparation. The officers, Maciu Vakatuturaga, Joshua Bull, and Isireli Raseisei, appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe last Friday, seeking a decision. The charges are linked to the alleged assault of Tikoivalenibula in February 2022, who was taken to the Samabula Police Station after reportedly attacking a 27-year-old mechanic while under the influence. The injuries sustained resulted in Tikoivalenibula’s death. The three officers are currently out on bail.
