Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas have relaunched a mangrove planting initiative as part of the Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy program, which took place last Thursday at the Denarau Golf Club.
The initiative was driven by Marriott International Fiji Resorts’ Next Gen Business Council, composed of dynamic young leaders, along with senior hotel executives and nearly 144 staff members. They successfully planted 427 mangrove saplings during this event.
This effort represents the first of three planned mangrove planting events for the year, highlighting the resorts’ dedication to environmental sustainability. The initiative involved collaboration with the mangrove rangers, the hotel’s sustainability committee, and partners including the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) and FRIEND Fiji.
Neeraj Chadha, the general manager of Westin and Sheraton Resorts Denarau, emphasized the importance of caring for the surrounding environment, stating, “It is in our best interest to ensure that we take care of the environment that envelops our vast playground, and this initiative, pioneered by our next generation of leaders, marks our commitment.”
Siumen Chung, president of the Next Gen Business Council, noted the significance of sustainability for their committee and expressed her satisfaction in seeing team members allocate their lunch breaks to support this community project.
