Mangrove Revival: Sheraton Fiji Leads the Way in Sustainability

The Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, along with Sheraton Denarau Villas, revived their mangrove planting initiative last Thursday. This event is part of the Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy program and took place at the Resort’s Denarau Golf Club.

According to a statement from the resort, the initiative was driven by the Marriott International Fiji Resorts’ Next Gen Business Council, consisting of enthusiastic young leaders, alongside senior hotel executives. Nearly 144 associates participated, successfully planting 427 mangrove saplings.

This effort marks the first of three planned mangrove planting activities for the year, highlighting the resorts’ dedication to sustainable environmental practices. The initiative involves cooperation between mangrove rangers, the hotel’s sustainability committee, and key partners such as the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) and FRIEND Fiji.

Neeraj Chadha, General Manager of Westin and Sheraton Resorts in Denarau, noted that the Denarau Golf Course is linked to natural waterways. “It’s essential for us to care for the environment that surrounds our expansive resort, and this initiative led by our future leaders underscores our commitment,” she stated.

Siumen Chung, president of Marriott International Fiji Resorts’ Next Gen Business Council, emphasized that sustainability is a core focus for their committee and associates. “It has been rewarding to see our team utilize their lunch break to contribute to this community project,” Ms. Chung remarked.
