A 24-year-old man is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon, facing charges of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception. The Fiji Police Mpaisa task force conducted an investigation that revealed the suspect allegedly deceived a victim out of $475 on February 9, 2024. This amount was intended as payment for a car part that was advertised on Facebook. Following the transaction, the accused reportedly severed all communication with the victim.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance when engaging in online transactions, particularly in social media marketplaces. It serves as a reminder for consumers to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of sellers before making payments.

As the legal proceedings move forward, there remains hope that justice will be served, potentially leading to greater awareness about online scams and encouraging safer practices in digital commerce.
