The Malolo XVs rugby team is regrouping after their recent match, which lasted only 40 minutes due to heavy rainfall, during round three of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific. The match against the Drua Development team was suspended at halftime to protect the playing surface for the main event featuring the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua versus the Hurricanes.
Assistant coach Joseva Domolailai emphasized the importance of maximizing game time for the players, particularly as the Skipper Cup season approaches. He noted that integrating new players with the more experienced veterans is a key priority for the team. “Though it was only a 40-minute game, we managed to identify a few areas that need attention, and that is where we will focus moving forward,” Domolailai explained.
The match provided valuable experience for the squad at Churchill Park in Lautoka, which Domolailai believes is especially beneficial for players primarily competing at the club level. He expressed gratitude for the exposure to higher-level rugby, as it offers a rare opportunity for those players to develop their skills and understanding of the game.
As the team continues to prepare, they were scheduled to face the SportsWorld Fijian Under-20 team this week. However, that match has been confirmed as canceled by the Fiji Rugby Union. Coach Rupeni Nasiga stated that the team is now waiting for confirmation from the FRU regarding their next warm-up match.
Despite the challenges, the Malolo XVs are staying focused on their development and are optimistic about the future as they work to strengthen their team dynamics and performance ahead of the upcoming season.
