Jese Dautei Robinson has made a remarkable mark on history by becoming the first male nurse to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery among a cohort of 12 nurses in Labasa. At the graduation ceremony held yesterday at the Civic Centre in Labasa, the 32-year-old from Vunikodi Village, Udu, Macuata, was honored with three prestigious awards for his outstanding academic performance. His accolades included Academic Excellence in Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Academic Excellence in Normal Labour and Birth, and Overall Academic Excellence in the program.
Mr. Robinson, who currently works at Nasea Health Centre, cited personal loss as his driving inspiration for entering the nursing profession. The unfortunate passing of his father, Veveni Robinson, during his Year 11 studies motivated him to pursue a career in healthcare. As the second eldest of eight siblings, he took on the responsibility of supporting both his family and community.
Choosing midwifery as his specialization came from a personal desire to connect deeply with the journey of parenthood. “I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father,” he said. His wife, who is also a nurse at Labasa Hospital, shares his dedication to patient care, underscoring their mutual commitment to the profession.
With a profound passion for the joys of childbirth, Mr. Robinson has furthered his qualifications to ensure safe deliveries for mothers. “To help bring a life into this world and place it in a mother’s arms is the purest joy,” he expressed.
Mr. Robinson also advocates for the nursing profession and its inclusive nature, emphasizing that gender should not delineate one’s role in healthcare. “Nursing is a beautiful profession where there is no boundary set between genders. I encourage people to pursue a career in this field,” he stated.
Jese Robinson’s achievements are not only a personal triumph but also a beacon of inspiration, demonstrating that compassion and skill can transcend gender barriers and encouraging others to chase their dreams in the field of nursing.
This story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of personal motivation and the importance of inclusivity in the healthcare sector, showcasing the vital contributions that individuals from all backgrounds can make.
