Jese Dautei Robinson has achieved a remarkable milestone as the only male nurse to graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery among 12 nurses in Labasa, where he was honored with three notable awards for his academic excellence.

At just 32 years old and hailing from Vunikodi Village in Udu, Macuata, Robinson received commendations for Academic Excellence in Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Academic Excellence in Normal Labour and Birth, as well as Overall Academic Excellence in the program. His accomplishments were celebrated during the graduation ceremony held at the Civic Centre in Labasa.

Robinson’s journey into nursing was deeply personal, sparked by the loss of his father during his Year 11 studies, leading him to pursue a career in healthcare. As the second eldest of eight siblings, he has taken on the responsibility of supporting his family and community. His decision to specialize in midwifery is also rooted in a desire to positively impact childbirth experiences.

“I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father,” Robinson stated. His dedication to patient care is mirrored by his wife, who is also a nurse at Labasa Hospital. Driven by the hope of bringing joy to families through childbirth, he aimed to enhance his skills to ensure the safe delivery of babies.

Robinson expressed the joy of assisting mothers in bringing new life into the world, calling it “the purest joy.” He is also a strong advocate for the nursing profession, emphasizing its inclusive nature.

“Nursing is a beautiful profession where there is no boundary set between genders. I encourage people to pursue a career in this field,” he urged. With his extraordinary achievements and dedication to midwifery, Jese Robinson not only breaks down barriers but also inspires others to chase their dreams, showcasing how compassion and expertise know no gender.

This inspiring story highlights the importance of inclusivity in careers traditionally dominated by one gender and serves as a powerful reminder that passion and determination can lead to remarkable accomplishments, no matter one’s background.
