Jese Dautei Robinson has made a significant mark in the field of healthcare by becoming the first male nurse to earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery among a group of 12 nurses in Labasa. At the graduation ceremony held at the Civic Centre in Labasa, he was honored with three notable awards for his outstanding academic performance.
The 32-year-old, originally from Vunikodi Village, Udu, Macuata, received accolades for his exceptional work in areas such as the Normal Puerperium and Newborn, Normal Labour and Birth, and was recognized for Overall Academic Excellence in the program. Robinson, who is currently employed at the Nasea Health Centre, shared that his decision to pursue a career in nursing was inspired by the loss of his father during his formative years.
At the age of 16, following his father’s passing, Robinson took it upon himself to support his family as the second eldest of eight siblings. His choice to specialize in midwifery stems from a personal ambition to become a good father himself, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing and familial values.
In expressing his motivations, Robinson shared, “I chose to become a midwife, even though I am a male nurse, because I want to become a good father.” His wife, who also works as a nurse at Labasa Hospital, aligns with him in their dedication to caring for patients.
Robinson articulated the joy of facilitating childbirth, stating, “To help bring a life into this world and place it in a mother’s arms is the purest joy.” He actively promotes the nursing profession’s inclusive nature, reminding us that gender should not limit one’s ability to pursue a career in healthcare. He encourages others to consider a path in nursing, reinforcing that the profession thrives on compassion regardless of gender.
Jese Robinson’s extraordinary accomplishments are a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others to challenge norms and follow their passions while illustrating that empathy and expertise transcend gender barriers.
His story reminds us that the pursuit of one’s dreams can bring about profound changes not just for the individual, but for families and communities as well.
