Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated a significant tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, with an investment of several million dollars. The site, conveniently located near the Korovatu picnic area and overlooking Mali Island and Malau, received a recent visit from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

Ma Xianlin, the managing director of Northern New City Tourism Development and a tourism developer from China, purchased the 151-acre land in 2022 after his first trip to Fiji as a tourist in 2018. He expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their guidance and support throughout the process.

“We have invested approximately $5 million in the initial phases, which include site enhancements. Our vision includes developing a hotel, resort, guest house, a cantilever swimming pool, a mini cable car, mountain top steps, and other attractions to foster more engaging activities,” said Mr. Xianlin. The project started last year and will be executed in stages, estimated to take about five years to complete.

Mr. Kamikamica praised the early progress of the project and remarked on its strategic location which offers stunning views for both tourists and locals. He emphasized that the residents of the North will have the opportunity to enjoy a lifestyle enriched by diverse tourism activities. He encouraged Mr. Xianlin to connect with the government for any assistance needed in realizing this ambitious undertaking.

This project signifies a robust investment in the tourism sector of Vanua Levu, promising to enhance local economic opportunities and provide a new destination for travelers, thereby contributing positively to the region’s growth.

In a hopeful reflection, this initiative not only underscores the attractiveness of Fiji as a tourist destination but also highlights a growing trend of international investment in the local economy, which could bolster community development and create jobs for residents.
