The Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced a significant reshuffle of Permanent Secretaries, effective February 3, 2025. This restructuring, conducted in agreement with the Prime Minister, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance leadership capabilities across key ministries and optimize public service effectiveness, as stated by PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada.

In this reshuffle, Dr. Raijeli Taga will transition from her role as Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, currently in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will take over at the Office of the Prime Minister and also assume the role of Acting Permanent Secretary for Immigration.

Additionally, Mr. Manasa Lesuma, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Housing, will expand his responsibilities by acting as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Policing starting January 14, 2025.

These strategic changes reflect the government’s commitment to positioning qualified leaders in essential roles, promoting administrative efficiency, and addressing concerns regarding workload distribution among government officials. This approach aims not only to enhance service delivery but also to ensure that ministries are led by individuals with the necessary expertise and vision, fostering a more effective governance system.

The reshuffle also indicates the government’s dedication to leveraging local talent for leadership roles, signaling a hopeful pathway for better public administration in Fiji. By reinvigorating leadership across ministries, the administration seeks to create a responsive and accountable governance structure that meets the nation’s evolving needs.

In summary, the reshuffling of these Permanent Secretaries aims to strengthen leadership and optimize management within critical ministries, promising a brighter and more effective future for public service in Fiji.
