The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer for alleged sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that the officer is accused of committing these acts multiple times between 2019 and 2023 at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions. The case was handled by the Sexual Offenses Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department, which, after its investigation, sought independent legal counsel from the ODPP. Following their guidance, the accused faces nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
