Divisional taskforces are actively working to dismantle marijuana operations as part of a broader initiative aimed at curtailing illegal drug networks during the festive season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that in a recent operation carried out by the Savusavu Police in the Viani farming area, authorities seized over 200 plants suspected to be marijuana.

In a separate operation in the Navosa highlands, more than 1,000 suspected marijuana plants were confiscated. The identities of the farm owners where these plants were found have yet to be determined. ACP Driu noted that the successful seizures represent a significant step in reducing the availability of illicit drugs, particularly as some of the plants were reportedly being prepared for distribution.

Operations aren’t limited to rural areas; police have successfully conducted raids in urban centers as well. In a recent raid at a carrier stand in Suva, officers discovered and seized several parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana following searches of two vehicles. The investigation is ongoing, and several suspects have been apprehended.

ACP Driu affirmed that the Fiji Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to disrupt and destabilize drug networks. He cautioned that attempts to undermine policing efforts would ultimately be futile, emphasizing the unyielding commitment of law enforcement to tackle the issue.

This ongoing effort highlights the authorities’ dedication to public safety and the welfare of the community. As these operations gain momentum, they reinforce the message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated and that there is a proactive approach to combatting them.

Overall, the actions taken by the police not only reflect a determined stance against narcotics but also serve to build a safer environment for all citizens, especially during a time when community celebrations are taking place.
