In a significant crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, police uncovered over 2,000 marijuana plants across two locations in the Malua Range of Navosa on Monday. This operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the authorities to combat both marijuana and hard drug production.

The raids were conducted by officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID), following intelligence that suggested the existence of illegal marijuana farms in the region. After navigating difficult terrain for over a night in the highlands, the law enforcement team discovered one site with more than 1,800 uprooted plants, while another location yielded over 900 plants, varying from 10 centimeters to an impressive 2.5 meters in height.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the operation’s importance in disrupting the drug supply chain and curtailing illegal drug networks. He acknowledged the vital role the public played in providing information that led to the identification of these cultivation sites and subsequent arrests.

In light of these developments, ACP Driu encouraged anyone with information about illegal drug activities to come forward. Contact information for confidential reporting was provided, including Crime Stoppers and various SOCID departments.

This concerted effort not only highlights law enforcement’s commitment to addressing drug-related issues but also showcases community involvement in creating a safer environment. The collaboration between the police and the public may foster hope for a more secure future free from the threats posed by illegal drug operations.

Overall, this raid serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in combating drug trafficking and cultivation, yet it also offers a glimpse of progress made when communities and law enforcement unite against such activities.
