More than 2,000 marijuana plants were discovered during two separate raids in the remote Malua Range in Navosa’s Nasikawa district on Monday. This operation was part of ongoing efforts by the police to combat both marijuana cultivation and the production of harder drugs.
The raids, executed by the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID), were initiated following intelligence indicating illegal marijuana farms in the area. Law enforcement officers navigated difficult terrain, even spending a night in the highlands to successfully locate and uproot the marijuana plants. At one site, over 1,800 plants were uprooted, while the second location yielded more than 900 plants, with sizes varying from 10 cm to 2.5 meters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the importance of this operation as a critical step in disrupting the local drug supply chain. He emphasized that recent efforts have centered on dismantling networks involved in the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs.
ACP Driu commended the public for their assistance, noting that the information they provided led to the discovery of these farms and numerous arrests. He encouraged anyone with information to reach out confidentially to the authorities, providing several contact numbers for various divisions within the police force.
This successful operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement in safeguarding communities from drug-related threats, with community involvement playing a vital role in the ongoing fight against illegal drug activities. As public awareness grows and partnerships between police and the community strengthen, the potential for a safer environment increases, fostering hope for a future with less drug-related crime.
