The Fiji Police Force announced that officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) carried out two significant raids in the Malua range of Navosa, resulting in the seizure of over 2,000 suspected marijuana plants.

The operations were initiated after receiving credible information regarding marijuana cultivation in the area. To access the farms, the police team navigated the challenging terrain and spent the night in the highlands. During the raids, they discovered more than 1,800 plants on one farm and over 900 plants on another, with sizes varying from 10 cm to 2.5 meters.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted the importance of these seizures in disrupting the marijuana supply chain and expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in cultivation and distribution. He also noted that numerous arrests have been made in recent weeks, with suspects being charged and brought to court. Driu praised the collaborative effort in sharing information that has contributed to these important discoveries and earlier arrests.

This ongoing effort by the Fiji Police reflects a commitment to tackling drug-related issues and protecting the community from the negative impacts of drug trade. With continued vigilance and cooperation from the public, it is hoped that further progress can be made in combating organized crime in Fiji.
